Nationwide, health and human service professionals are seeking ways to better educate their personnel and colleagues about evidence-based practices for tobacco dependence treatment, prevention, and control. The University of Arizona HealthCare Partnership is pleased to offer evaluated educational resources based on the recommendations of the US Public Health Service Clinical Practice Guideline: Treating Tobacco Use and Dependence, and the USDHHS Interagency Committee on Smoking and Health’s National Action Plan for Tobacco Cessation.

Basic Tobacco Intervention Skills Certification for Maternal and Child Health Originally developed for Woman, Infants, & Children [WIC] Community Nutrition Workers, this four-hour adaptation of the Basic Tobacco Intervention Skills Certification program includes a focus on tobacco use during pregnancy and the effects of environmental tobacco smoke on children.
Basic Tobacco Intervention Skills for Maternal and Child Health Instructor Certification Upon successful completion of the Basic Tobacco Intervention Skills for Maternal and Child Health program, certified individuals are encouraged to attend this four-hour workshop to learn the methods and techniques to teach the corresponding certification workshop, to identify effects of tobacco use during pregnancy and childhood exposure to environmental tobacco smoke, and to evaluate participant performance. Participants receive multimodal educational resources specific to maternal and child health to facilitate workshop instruction.
