Nationwide, health and human service professionals are seeking ways to better educate their personnel and colleagues about evidence-based practices for tobacco dependence treatment, prevention, and control. The University of Arizona HealthCare Partnership is pleased to offer evaluated educational resources based on the recommendations of the US Public Health Service Clinical Practice Guideline: Treating Tobacco Use and Dependence, and the USDHHS Interagency Committee on Smoking and Health’s National Action Plan for Tobacco Cessation.

Basic Tobacco Intervention Skills Certification for Native American Health This adaptation of the Basic Tobacco Intervention Skills Certification program is a four-hour workshop offering culturally sensitive information regarding traditional versus commercial tobacco use within Native American communities. Participants receive multimodal resources specific to Native American health, such as a culturally competent, easily transportable flip chart to facilitate brief interventions in a variety of settings.
Basic Tobacco Intervention Skills for Native American Health Instructor Certification Upon successful completion of the Basic Tobacco Intervention Skills for Native American Health program, certified individuals may attend this four- to five-hour workshop to learn the methods and techniques to teach the corresponding certification workshop, to include culturally sensitive information regarding traditional versus commercial tobacco use, and to evaluate participant performance. Participants receive multimodal educational resources specific to Native American health to facilitate workshop instruction.
